Former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Joins CBB Law Enforcement Advisory Council
Steven Sund, the former U.S. Capitol Police Chief and best-selling author, will help guide one of our nation's top nonprofit groups supporting law enforcement
McLean, VA (March 6, 2024) – Citizens Behind the Badge (CBB), a national nonprofit law enforcement advocacy organization, announced today that Steven Sund, a 30-year law enforcement veteran who served as Chief of Police for the U.S. Capitol Police, has joined their Law Enforcement Advisory Council.
Mr. Sund served for over 25 years with the Metropolitan Police Department in the District of Columbia (MPDC), where he rose in the ranks from patrol officer to commander of the elite Special Operations Division (SOD), overseeing several highly specialized units from 2011 through 2015. In 2017, Mr. Sund was selected to serve as the Assistant Chief of Police for the United States Capitol Police in Washington, D.C. Two years later, on June 13, 2019, he was named the 10th Chief of Police for the United States Capitol Police, a position he held until April 2021.
In January 2023, Mr. Sund published a best-selling book about the institutional failings that occurred on January 6, 2021, titled “Courage Under Fire, Under Siege and Outnumbered 58 to 1 on January 6.” https://www.amazon.com/Courage-Under-Fire-Outnumbered-January/dp/B0BGJHNBSK
“Steve is one of our nation’s top law enforcement leaders, having served with great distinction throughout a 30-year career in policing,” declared CBB founder and CEO Craig W. Floyd. “After learning about the work our organization was doing in support of law enforcement, Steve reached out to offer his assistance and we are extremely proud and honored that he is now a valued member of our esteemed group of advisors.”
“I am very much looking forward to supporting this great cause and all the vital work Citizens Behind the Badge is doing in support of my brothers and sisters in blue,” Mr. Sund said. “It is an extreme honor to be selected as an advisor to an organization devoted to mobilizing our citizens in support of law enforcement,” he added.
CBB’s Law Enforcement Advisory Council helps guide the organization’s policy positions, programs and activities. Mr. Sund joins 18 other members of the Council, which is comprised of federal, state and local law enforcement leaders from across the country. The Council is chaired by Bill Erfurth, a retired 26-year veteran of the Miami-Dade (FL) Police Department.
